Which software should I learn as a structural engineer: SAP evaluation 16 or STAAD pro?

Which software should I learn as a structural engineer: SAP evaluation 16 or STAAD pro?
You don't need to learn software. What you need is to learn structural modeling. Once you learn the principles of how to build a meaningful (accurate results) structural model in any program, the question of switching and of which specific software to use is fairly trivial. Each software, STAAD, SAP, ETABS, RISA, RAM, etc has its own unique quirks and benefits, but the underlying engineering principles are the same, you need to have a very clear understanding what you need to put into your models, including

·         Geometry
·         material properties
·         boundary conditions
·         loads
·         load cases
·         member releases
·         member parameters (unbraced lengths, K factors, etc)
·         code checks (IBC, Steel code, Concrete code - these depend on your specific location and the location of your project)

Once you understand these areas, the challenge to switch from one software to another is mostly just a matter of finding out where they've hidden the button for "XYZ" feature compared to another software.
